More About Me:
Born and raised in Iowa (don't hold that against me), I am married to my high school sweetheart, Katie, and we have 3 sons; Grant, Camden, and Seth. I hang out at Starbucks too much where you can find me almost anytime across Tucson. When I'm not there you may find me hiking in the Santa Catalina Mountains or mountain biking along my favorite local trails (50 Year Trail and Fantasy Island). Let's see, I've been involved in youth ministry, church planting, and my favorite… being a hiking and mountain biking guide.

The Wii Shoulder

In all honesty I really think I might've torn my rotator cuff playing the Wii. Don't laugh ... I'm not joking. We got a Wii about a month ago and it came with the Sports Pack game with bowling, baseball, golf, tennis, and boxing. It's the funnest game system I've ever played and beyond addicting.

The big idea with the Wii sports games is that they simulate motions from the real life sports. The controllers are wireless remotes and work through motion ... so when you play t

Metrospiritual

Have you ever tried explaining the term "metrosexual" to someone your Dad's age? First of all, the term is quirky, it rolls off your tongue in a funny way, and usually people look at you weird if they've never heard of it. About a month ago I remember sitting with Ben Barfield trying to explain that term to someone and the more we tried the funnier it got. According to something I read on msn.com one time (I think it was MSN) they defined metrosexual as guys who (a) liked to dress well / sharp…

Sex in the City

I'm so a coffee house junkie and I know I just got a bunch of "duhs" from my reading audience. One of my chief complaints of Tucson is that we're a Starbucks city. Now I love Starbucks and I'm there more times than I'm not. I'm just saying that there's not a lot of cool hip and trendy "Tucson original" coffee shops. All we really have are Starbucks across the city with very few local coffee joints. BUT, but, but ... today I sit in a brand new one at Main Gate Square right across the street fr…

Emotional as a Junior High Girl

So I was caught off guard, so what? I mean, to those close to me I always tell them I'm shallow and emotionally disengaged. But the reality is that I really am emotional. I may not cry watching chic flicks (I still loved it when Leonardo DiCaprio died in Titanic) and I'm not the most suave around hurting people. BUT, I do cry ... like when Boise State beat Oklahoma last year in the BCS Bowl ... I was jumping up and down beyond elated with tears streaking down my face (no joke). I cried…

Selling out to the Man

As my head hit the pillow last night I had high hopes and aspirations for today. I was gonna head towards the U of A this AM and hit a local coffee shop to hang out, watch people, and get some work done. But this morning as the hot water was pattering down on me in the shower I changed my mind. This preemptive visit to a local coffee shop met stubborn resistance. Instead, I jumped in my Escape, zipped down the freeway, and I landed in antithesis of local homegrown coffee shops ... Starbucks.…

I'll be limited to my good looks and charm (and my 9 yr. old son). We're flying in and have baggage limitations. But I'm not conceding... I do have LA to sell (and that's not bad).

I'm with you. Do you envision a network of those house church with some type of relationship? Not something that would quench it but equip or inspire or something? What do you see your role as?

Sean! You are venturing into uncharted waters. "There be monsters" in those places. I will continue to pray for you to courageously go into that new movement and that you are sustained and that your own financial needs are met.
Who is the typical person that can gather and lead a "home" group?
How are you interacting with them?
is there any support structure that extends to the groups?
Sounds cool!

Sean... the church planting world is mystical. Much of what i believed about process, success, purpose, my role, is being challenged. Do you ever get that feeling that inany given situation... there is something happening on the surface (circumstances, trials, relationships, etc.) but then you realize there is stuff happening underneath... on another level? I get that feeling all the time - like what i thoight was happening is just on the urface and that God is doing something on a deeper level. I am learning to try and see the unseen, what is going on underneath. i am trying to focus on those activities, trying to sense what God is up to behind the scenes and then join Him in that. Does that make sense?
You can go and get books and man uals about planting a church but it is only part of the story.
What is up with you? Where is God taking you?
Are you taking anyone else there?
Peace and Courage bru!
